Club Report week ending 28 June with Texas Ted
A reminder to members who have not already collected a letter from the management, that they are in the Office. It explains about the new reduced membership fees, where to pay them, and various discounts that will be available to you as members.

Our Open Comp. was a great success, and many thanks to Hilda and Barry for all their work. In the semi-final Brian Pocock’s team was against Alan Mc. Pherson’s team, which Alan conceded after 10 of the 12 ends when they were trailing 5-15. In the other semi. Phil Goodfellow’s team fought a tight game with Len Rudge’s, the score being 10 all after 9 ends, but Len’s team came out on top winning 13-11.

The final was Ronnie Cairns, Gerry Linley and Len Rudge against Sue Johnson, and Jan and Brian Pocock. Brian’s team made a disastrous start conceding 6 shots on the 1st. end from which they found it difficult to recover, eventually conceding after 10 ends . Len’s team won 14-5, so congratulations to them.

Tuesday was the final of the 2-4 League. Ted Upham had qualified, but as he had had several Subs. in his team he felt it was not right to contest the final, so the second , Brian Miller played in the final, but as his partner was not available, Mike Kilby substituted. Their opponents were Marina Beardsall and Penny Tomkin, and in a tight game, Brian and Mike came out on top. Well done to you both.

This week the Premier 20 were against La Marina, and we couldn’t have wished for a better result, winning all disciplines both at home and away, gaining all 16 points which puts in the lead in this League, 9 points in front of Emerald Isle and 11 in front of San Miquel, although we have played one more game.

In the King’s Cup we were against Quesada. The Monarchs at home against the Tigers were definitely on fire winning all 4 disciplines gaining all 12 points. Singles: Lynn Greenland 21-7. Pairs: Carol Rudge and Peter Bonsor 36-19. Trips: Sheila Stead, Angie Goodfellow and Barry Latham 16-13. Rinks: Jenny Bowman, Wendy Latham, Derek Toozer and Bill Pain 25-7. As there was no Princes League this week the Monarchs played against our Royals and had a convincing 26-8 win.

The Royals were away at Quesada, but unfortunately only came away with 3 points, winning the Pairs with Fred Tilley and Barry Collins 22-7. In the Singles Graham Bater making his debut in this discipline did very well, leading at one stage 16-15 eventually losing 16-21. The Trips of Jeannie Clements, Cas Thomas and Jack Redfern lost the first 5 ends, which was too much to recover, losing 8-21. It was similar bad luck with the Rinks of Beryl Regan, Jan and Steve Westall and Mike Regan. As Penny Tomkin, Joyce and Jack Redfern are all returning to the U.K. for a while Mike Regan would like to thank them for all for the support they have given the team.

The Glosters were away to La Siesta in the Hurricane League, and after 15 ends looked as if they might have gained 8 or 10 points, but things went wrong, and it finished La Siesta 10, Greenlands 4.
