Open Mixed Triples - Sponsors Bancaja

Good weather greeted competitors in the annual Open Mixed Triples although later in the afternoon rain fell for an hour or so. Worrying times knowing the organisers knack for attracting rain.

36 triples contested for the Crystal Bowl & Glasses plus cash prizes.

6 teams from Mojacar 3 from South Alicante and 27 from the North, many from mixed clubs, were drawn into 6 groups of 6.

The group winners who did not qualify for the semi-finals were
J. Moss, C. Corbin & F. Wilshire (J.G.) and K. Bainbridge (ABC) with H. & D. Briggs (F.G.).

In the semis both games were close and after some tremendous bowling the first to finish victors were J. Avey and V. & J. Wood (BBC) who defeated W. Symonds, D. Browne (BBC) and B. Manser (J.G.) 12 shots to 10.

The other semi went to an extra end and 1 shot was secured by M. Johnson’s team consisting of T. Mckenna (ABC) and J.& M. Johnson (Indalo) was just enough to beat A. Nelson and C. & D. Meare (BBC) 8 shots to 7.

In the final Mick’s team took a 7 – 5 lead, after 5 ends. Unfortunately for them they did not score again and were 7 – 10 down to John’s team going to the last end where John moved the jack back & away from his opponents bowls, when a few down, and were worthy winners.

At the presentation organiser thanked Bancaja for their sponsorship. Mary Cummings for her help running the event and parking duties. Ken Taylor, Fred Simpson & Alan Smith for their help with parking and equipment. Jerry Bartley who stood as Umpire for the 3 Days and was presented with a gift and the owners for food & drink & the use of their villa grounds for over spill parking.
