Calpe Bowls Club

When we played BBC Lions in December on their green we were absolutely anihalated,10 - nil (112 shots to 40).This week was revenge time - they came to Calpe expecting a similar result to re-inforce a last push for the League Championship title-and we sent them back with their tails between their legs.

June Merrett, Betty Green & Ted Campbell lost 12-20
Val Street, Betty Walmsley & Derek Garner won 15-11
Steve Mable, Enid Duxbury & Bill Green won 18-12

A splendid win which helped us climb a little higher up the League table and virtually sealed the Championship for Javea Quartz. Congratulations to them and Dave Sackman-don't forget-you owe us one!

Barry,Tony and Kate sealed their win in the first 5 ends,winning them all to lead 9-nil.Cutts and Co(BBC's banker)rallied to 12-8 but a two followed by a five for the Egrets on the 14th and 15th ends finished the Lions off.

If June,Betty and Ted had got off to a better start it could have been quite different-they lost all the first 4 ends to trail 6-nil.They then won 7 of the remaining 14 ends to make a good match of it but could never make up that early deficit.However,considering that Ted was not long out of his hospital bed it was a very good performance.

Conversely,Val Betty and Derek won all their first four ends to lead 7-nil and this proved decisive.The Lions won ten of the last fourteen ends with 9 ones and a two but it was never enough.You've always a chance if you only give ones away and Derek and Co benefitted from two fours which made all the difference.

Likewise,Bill,Enid and Steve only gave away 5 ones in the first 14 ends to lead 17-5 and this was the basis of ther excellent win.That early lead enabled them to withstand a Lions late charge.
